Biographical/historical: Eduardo García Benito, 1891-1981, also known simply as Benito, studied art in his native Spain and at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He worked as a designer of fabrics, furnishings, and decorative objects with couturier Paul Poiret, and contributed illustrations to Parisian fashion journals such as the Gazette du Bon Ton. In 1920 he was appointed head illustrator of the fashion magazines Vogue and Vanity Fair, a post he held for twenty years. His characteristic "big head" style, which emphasized the subject's head and long neck against a simple background, is evident in this print.

Extent: 1 print on silver paper : hand-colored, with embossing ; 24 x 19 cm., on mount 31 x 23 cm.
Printed border on mount.
Library's copy is inscribed: "To Ruth, with admiration and a very Merry Christmas from Frank [illegible]."
