Henry Geldzahler, Cultural Commissioner of New York City, introduces briefly Martha Hill, Jack Anderson, and Anna Kisselgoff (members of the Capezio Dance Awards committee), Roberta Flack, Alvin Ailey, George Faison, and the Capezio representatives: Alfred Terlizzi, Nicholas Terlizzi, and Ben Sommers; he speaks about possible causes for the current "dance explosion" in the United States; reads aloud a congratulatory telegram from U. S. Henry Geldzahler, the master of ceremonies, Alvin Ailey, recipient of the award, George Faison, and Roberta Flack speak at the ceremony. The award is presented by Ben Sommers.
