Boris Chaliapine painting in his studio, shots of his portraits of ballet personalities (mostly associated with the Original Ballet Russe) and informal shots of several of his subjects, in conversation, posing or dancing. Among the subjects depicted are Irina Baronova (informal shots), Genevieve Moulin (informal shots), Nicholas Orloff, Tatiana Leskova, Yura Lazovsky, Michel Panaieff, Nina Verchinina, Tamara Toumanova, Tatiana Riabouchinska, David Lichine, Anna Volkova, Igor Schwezoff, Paul Petroff, Galina Razoumova, Col. W. de Basil, Dimitri Rostoff, Tatiana Chamié, Vera Zorina, Lucia Chase, Vera Nemchinova (informal shots) and Anatole Oboukhoff. The portrait bust of Chaliapine's father, the singer Feodor, is twice seen in the film.
