Content: Printed on border: "Allemagne ; Germany ; Deutschland." Typed on mount: "Robes of king resemble those of church; subjection of empire to Roman pope. Globe with cross on top; symbol of supremacy of Christianity. Sceptre of gold; emblem of justice and command. Imperial crown, originally shaped like diadem, encircled by double row of pearls like Oriental crown. Charles, Bald, had covered crown with cross. Costumes of noblemen and bourgeoisie, with little variation. 1. Doctor from Cologne ; 2. Senator or financier has unusual sleeve on coat ; 3, 5. Court lawyer and wealthy client ; 4. Artisan or villain; simple costume."
