Topics discussed include the role of social media in distribution of work, importance of analytics, using media alongside written works, the merits and shortcomings of watching dance on video/film, and curated sites versus personal blogs as avenues for the modern dance critic.
Reel 4. So you think you can ignore dance on TV? (ca. 87 min.) / moderator: Lisa Traiger (The Washington Post, From The Green Room, Washington Jewish Week) ; panel: Vitolio Jeune (Garth Fagan Dance, former finalist "So You Think You Can Dance"), Kate Lydon (Dance Media), Tonya Plank (blogger - Swan Lake Samba Girl), Adam Sklute (Ballet West). Panelists discuss their involvement in various dance reality programs and how their careers and career aspirations were effected by their involvement, the factors leading to Ballet West's involvement in the BBC-produced reality program Breaking Pointe, relationship between dance publications and dance television shows (both documentary-style and scripted programs). Excerpts of Breaking Pointe and the dance reality webseries Dance 212 are screened and discussed.
