The print dated 1831 bears the inked notation "Carlotta Grisi," and the penciled notation, in a different hand, "Probably an incorrect identification: in 1831 Carlotta Grisi was only 12 years old. Possibly Giulia Grisi?"
Acquisition: 1831 print Gift; Lillian Moore.
Biographical/historical: The French painter and lithographer Pierre Louis Grévedon, called Henri Grévedon, studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, but worked abroad until 1816. He exhibited his paintings at the Paris Salon between 1824 and 1859.

Description
Two half-length portraits of fashionably attired women. The print captioned Rosine may be an image from Grevedon's Alphabet des dames, first published in Paris in 1828. The sitter in the print dated 1831 has not been identified; neither the singer Giulia Grisi nor her sister Giuditta Grisi appeared in Paris until 1832, and the ballerina Carlotta Grisi did not make her performing debut until 1836.
