Description
An Orientalist vision of an entertainment in an exotic land. Three dancing women, their poses evocative of early 19th-century ballet, perform before an audience of men in clothing and accouterments suggesting several Asian countries, among them India, China, and Japan. The white-bearded man to their right, who appears to be juggling a sword, may be part of the performance. At right, ersatz Asian symbols decorate the chair of a bearded man, as well as a board behind the man in the foreground.
