The first edition of this publication appeared as a supplement to the Pease & Elliman Real Estate Indicator of March 1913, and featured the plans of 31 East Side apartment houses. This was published in a pamphlet of 35 pages which became the first Pease & Elliman East Side apartment catalog. Subsequent editions of the catalog feature the typical floor plans of hundreds of East Side apartment houses in New York City, including room counts for each apartment as well as a geographical index. Pease & Elliman called their publication "a standard work of reference to those interested in apartment renting," one that "epitomizes the transformation of the great East Side residence district of New York." "In the brief span of years," they wrote, "we have seen the East Side of New York multiply on itself a hundred times. "
